New Technology Feature: Polyfoil

WHAT IS POLYFOIL?

The short version is: Polyfoil is a technique to foil imprint upon coated sheets using polymer, foil, pressure, and UV curing. The result is a raised foil imprint that is applied without a die.

How it works: Each sheet requires printed dots for the machine to read the registration. Poly is laid down on the area to be foiled, heat activates the poly, the roll of foil applies with pressure over the sheet, then pulls up leaving foil only on the imprint areas. Then the machine ultraviolet cures the sheet.

BENEFITS OF POLYFOIL

1)  Raised without Embossing. Because the foil is applied over the polymer, it is raised off the sheet without the cost of an emboss die, or the impression on the other side of the sheet. This is particularly appealing to those designs that incorporate two-sided print, allowing for a raised effect on the cover without affecting the inside copy. Also, at certain quantities, it is less expensive than the combo cost of running through a press twice or a special die to create a foil emboss the image.

2)  Low Quantity and Variable Data Options. This foil is actually a digital

Use Your Senses!

The article in Harvard Business Review titled: “Please Touch the Merchandise” shared compelling research and conclusions about the role of touch in sales, notably:

“Consumers use their hands to connect with brands.”

Also:

“Touch can also create symbolic connections between people and products.”

What connections are you making with your clients? What tactile message are you sending in your direct mail? Invitations? Pocket Folders? Thank You Cards and Invitations?

Are your campaigns and informational tools inviting people to connect with your company vision?

Digital Die-cutting – What Does That Even Mean?

Among the exciting new technologies recently acquired by Barnhart Press, digital die-cutting capability is among the most impressive!

What does that even mean?

    1. A file goes from your imagination, via an electronic file, directly to the press where the first step is 3D printing the dart rules, which is where your piece will score. Check it out:

Digital Print Inkjet Technology Advantages

While at lunch during a conference of the National Print Owners Association, I sat among other owners and we enjoyed print-small-talk. While sharing details about our shops, my eyes lit up as I detailed the new technology on our floor.

With a giddy smile, I looked around and said, “I’m sorry. My print-geek is showing.”

“It’s alright,” I was assured, “You’re safe here.”

We laughed and continued our conversation; it’s fun to talk to people who “get it.”

At that NPOA event, Pocket Folders Fast, a dba of Wright printing/Barnhart Press, featured a folder with digital print, digital die-cutting, and variable digital foil with UV effects. It’s no wonder I was giddy. It’s time to talk about the advantages the inkjet technology brings to the mix for you and your clients.

Quality

Our investments are driven by our customer’s expectations. Of course, quality of print is the first and most important benefit. What I love the most about the inkjet quality is the color consistency, first sheet to last, one side to second side, folder to insert pieces; it is unbeatable. Obviously, quality is an assumed requirement on every job.  Still, there has been a learning curve of acceptance regarding digital print and it’s been fun showing off this technology’s capabilities.

A Peek from our Open House (Video)

Wow!

On Feb 9, we had such a great time with over 120 people attending our open house. We showed off new technology, including digital print and foil, spot UV effects, and digital die-cutting. Plus, conventional foil/emboss, conventional offset presses, and Bobst die-cutters that span generations.

Our favorite thing to show off?

Our team! Our team of print professionals happily shared their expertise on the shop’s capabilities, new and long-standing, and with smiles all around.

Check out the video for a peek:

If you missed the chance to walk “The Yellow Brick Road” and you’re anxious to see more. Call any of our sales team to arrange a tour of your own.  We can’t promise fresh cotton candy – but the laser die-cutter is cool all by itself.

Let’s talk about your next great idea!
